Abstract

This study aims to look at cowboy vocabulary from the game called Red Dead Redemption with a western theme, to see what cowboy vocabulary is and to classify the vocabulary found in the game using cognitive culture. The research’s analytical approach is a qualitative descriptive analysis method. Phenomenological methods were used in this study, and data were collected by playing the game. The author also watches cutscenes via YouTube to identify the location of the minutes and also the chapters that the cowboy vocabulary has found. Researchers used Brekhus, Zunshine and Wierzbicka's cognitive culture theory of cultural vocabulary to find cowboy vocabulary in video games. to find the lexical categories through data analysis, the researcher found 27 vocabularies that have been categorized as 8 types of words and the researcher also analyzed the meaning of general and also in terms of cowboy culture itself. There are 18 noun types associated with cowboy slang, accounting for 66.67% of the overall vocabulary. Then, verb types were discovered in 5 vocabularies with a combined proportion of 18.51%. Then, 4 data—adding up to 14.82%—were discovered to be of the adjective kind, and zero data—of the adverb variety.
