Abstract

The aims of this research find the phoneme /l/ with clear, dark, and voiceless conditions in the album “Falling into you” by Celine Dion. This research applied a qualitative descriptive method. The data was obtained by listening to song lyrics and identifying words containing clear, dark, and devoiced /l/ in the album “Falling into you” by Celine Dion. This research applies the theory of Peter Roach, Ladefoged & Keith Johnson, and Philip Carr to determine the type and condition of the /l/ phoneme. As the result of the data that has been analyzed, the results of the study found 35 data of 15 (Clear), 11 (Dark), and 9 (De-voiced). This research found that Clear /l/ is at the beginning of the word and before the vowel, Dark /l is the vowel after or at the end of the word and De-voiced is formed between vowels and consonants because it is produced without vibration in the pronunciation.
