Abstract

This study aimed to find out about the use of code switching in Rupert Sanders's GHOST IN THE SHELL film. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. This study was conducted from March to July 2017. This study attempts to examine the use of code switching contained in a film. This study uses the theory of Janet Holmes in classifying the type of code switching. This study focuses on the dialogue between characters to determine the type of code sitching that occurs in the film. From this research there are types of code switching found in seventeen data, such as metaphorical code switching 10 data or 59%, situational code switching 5 data or 29% and lexical borrowing 2 data or 12%. Beside that, in this research is also found some there are some factors causing of code switching usage, such as: participants, solidarity, status, topics.
