Abstract

This research is aimed to knowing and understanding verb patterns and differences between unaccusative and ergative that exist in those two short stories. The implementation of this research was conducted from March to July 2017. The kind of this research is qualitative descriptive, where the writer is an instrument of this research. This research to analysis verb pattern unaccusative and ergative verbs in the short stories. The writer used method kind of verb by Mark newson and verb pattern. This research only focuses in a simple sentence in the short story. The result of this research can shows thirty eight data of unaccusative and ergative. Short story by Poppy shire is trying to fulfill the purpose of attract the attention of the readers.
