Abstract

This research is aimed to know how tense and lax front vowels based on its vertical and horizontal axes which are available in the song by Bryans Adams. The implementation of this research was conducted from February to August 2017. The kind of the research is qualitative descriptive where the writer is the instrument of this research. This research explores about tense and lax analyses in the song by Bryan Adams. The writer has classified the front vowel and explained in detail the kinds of front vowel which are available in the song. The object of analysis only focuses on the Heaven song. The interpretation of data analyses which found fifty words that contain fifty eight of tense and lax front vowel. The data front vowel of phonemes /i/ has 21,65%, while front vowel of /e/ Phoneme has 15,79%. Then, vowel of phoneme /I/ has the highest percentages than other phonemes, it is 59,65%, phoneme /ԑ/ has no percentage 0%. The last phoneme /ǽ/ has 3.50%. It shows that the front vowels in the song of Bryans Adams are a lot and identically have more lax phonemes
