Abstract

This study is aimed to explain the kinds of linking word and intrusive /r/ in English. The subject of the research is the shape of you songs by Ed sheeran. The research uses a descriptive analysis qualitative research. This research is combining theory from Skandera and Burleigh (2005) and theory from Ogden (2009) as the main theory. The data from this research are forty eight, which include thirty six of consonant meet vowel, four data of final hiastus, five data of linking /r/ and three data of intrusive /r/. The process in analyzing the data is: (1) preparing the data, (2) analyzing the data, (3) discussing the data, and finally (4) concluding the data. The results of the research show that consonant meet vowel emerged thirty six times (75%), hiastus emerged four times (8%%), linking /r/ emerged five times (11%), and intrusive /r/ emerged three times (6%).
