Abstract

This study is aimed to explain the kinds of devoiced phoneme in English. The subject of the research is three songs by Queen. The research uses a descriptive analysis qualitative research. This research is combining theory from Skandera and Burleigh (2005) and theory from Yavas (2011) as the main theory. The data from this research are twenty, which include ten data of initial word devoicing, six data of final word devoicing, and four data of approximant devoicing. The process in analyzing the data is: (1) preparing the data, (2) analyzing the data, (3) discussing the data, and finally (4) concluding the data. The results of the research show that initial word devoicing emerged ten times (50%), final word devoicing emerged six times (30%), approximants devoicing emerged four times (20%), and nasals devoicing did not find in this research.
