Abstract

This research is aimed to know how the kinds of velar and the changing of velar to be velar softening which in happened in Protect and Defend novel by Richard North Patterson. This research will focus on the changing of velar [k] and velar [g] into velar softening found in the novel. The writer used Charles W. Kreidler (2004) as the main theory. This research has been done from March to July 2018. As a general requirement, the following steps are: (1) preparing for data, (2) data theft process, (3) data selection, (4) data analysis, (5) conclusion data. From the table, it is written that velar [k] is more commonly found than velar [g], velar [k] is more than in text as seen in the table. From all data in the novel found velar [k] into velar softening / s / as much as 7 data, velar [k] change to velar softening / ʃ / 3 data, velar [k] change to velar softening / z / 11 data, the writer not found velar [g] changed into velar softening. The writer hopes this research can be used for developing in English Phonology.
