Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the meaning of suffix -ist, -id, -ent, -ness and -ity of a morpheme. The writer takes the data object using Okky Madasari Bound novel. In this research, the writer wants to focus on how the meaning of the suffix is analyzed through the derivational process and the meaning of the semantic approach. The main theory used is the theory of Katamba and Plag about how to classify the meaning of suffix through derivational processes, and also the writer add theories from Yule and Chaer which explain the meaning of semantics. This research uses qualitative analysis methods. The main tool used in this research is the writer herself who is assisted with several references. The process of data analysis includes collecting data that has been obtained, then analyzed based on the theory that has been collected, and concluded the final results. The data obtained from the novel Bound was 40. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a meaning of the suffix that was identified as having the suffix -ness (52.5%), -ent (2.5%), -ity (32.5%), -ist (12.5%) and for the suffix -id (0%) are not found in the novel. From these results the writer conclude that there are many basic morphemes that can produce the meaning of a new word and the most commonly found is the suffix -ness.
