Abstract

This research aims to explain the translation technique in direct speech sentence. Subject of this research is The Lost Hero novel by Rick Riordan. This research used qualitative descriptive method. This research applied the theory of Benny Hoed (2006) and Lucia Molina and Hurtado Albir (2002) in analyzing. The process analyzing data is collecting data in novel related to direct speech sentence, analyzing the data by translation technique, searching for the definition of data needed in the dictionary used as the main source. Determine the data found included in the category of translation technique. Then make a conclusion. The writer found 30 data as a main data in novel. Types of technique the writer has found, Category of Literal technique fifteen data (50%), Category of Borrowing technique six data (20%), Category of Formal or Official two data (6%), Category of Generalization technique two data (6%), Category of Transposition technique two data (6%), Category of Cultural Equivalence one data (4%), Category of Modulation one data (4%), and last Category of Phonological technique one data (4%).
