Abstract
This paper is aimed for finding correlation between tenses mastery and students’ speaking ability at X grade accounting program students in Strada Budi Luhur Vocational School. In completing this paper, the writer took the sample of the entire X grade accounting students in Strada Budi Luhur Vocational School which are 30 students. The test is divided into tenses test and speaking test. The implement of the research was conducted from April until July 2019. After completing the research, the data were analyzed by using statistic technique with Pearson Product Moment formula to discover the result of experimental study. The result shows that there is a significant positive correlation between vocabulary mastery (variable X) and speaking ability (variable Y) with coefficient correlation (r) = 0.938 and coefficient of determination (KP) = 87.98%. It pointed out that tenses mastery gives high contribution to speaking ability. The rest of 12.02% is influenced by the other variables and factors that have not been researching by the writer.
