Abstract
This study aims to find out the translation techniques that often occur in a clipping word contained in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's work, the book “Sherlock Holmes” as an English version into the translation book “Sherlock Holmes” translated by Dra. Daisy Dianasari and Sendra B. Tanuwidjaja as the Indonesian version. The writer began conducting this research since the end of March 2019 until the end of July 2019. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The writer acts as an instrument in this study which is supported by various kinds of books on translation theories, several clipping word theories, and dictionaries used to analyse the meaning of several words, as well as several supporting website sources. This study tries to explore the clipping word and also the translation techniques contained in the book. The writer used the theory of translation techniques proposed by Hoed (2006) in classifying the types of translation techniques that many people have now learned. This study only focuses on the clipping word and also the translation techniques contained in the book, from this study can show the translation techniques that occur are as many as twenty data, including 7 data of the transposition techniques (35%), 6 data of modulation techniques ( 30%), and 3 data of contextual conditioning techniques (15%), 2 data of phonological translation techniques (10%), 1 data of official/standard translation techniques (5%), and 1 data of not given equivalent technique (5%). The results of this analysis show that the transposition translation technique is the most widely used technique in the translation book by Dra. Daisy Dianasari and Sendra B. Tanuwidjaja.
