Abstract

This study aims to find out the translation method in “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” novel by Jenny Han as the English version into “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” translation novel by Airien Kusumawardani as the Indonesian version. The writer began conducting this research from March 2018 to July 2019. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method. The writer acts as an instrument in this study supported by a variety of books on translation theory, specifically the theory of translation methods by Newmark (V diagram), some books about adverbial clause theory, dictionaries used to analyze the meaning of several words, and several supporting website sources. The writer uses as many as 20 data taken randomly to be analyzed and found as many as 6 translation methods out of 8 available translation methods. The six methods of translation are 1 data of word-for-word translation, 3 data of literal translation, 1 data of faithful translation, 5 data od semantic translation, 2 data of free translation, and 8 data of communicative translation. The result of this study indicates that the communicative translation is the most widely used method in the novel translation.
