Abstract

The aim of this research is to find the kinds of collocation and translation technique used in translating the collocation in The Devil Wears Prada novel. This research applied the theory of Molina and Albir (2002) for the technique of translation, and the theory of Benson, Benson, and Ilson (2010) for the collocation. The method used in this research is qualitative method. To limit the scope of the research, only lexical collocation is collected and analyzed. From 30 data collected, there are four kinds of collocation found, which are eight data of lexical collocation type 1 (26.67%), fourteen data of type 3 (46.67%), one data of type 4 (3.33%), and seven data of type 6 (23.33%). In addition, there are seven techniques of translation applied, which are one data of adaptation (3.33%), two data of established equivalent (6.66%), one data of generalization (3.33%), one data of transposition (3.33%), two data of linguistic amplification (6.66%), seventeen data of literal translation (56.7%), and six data of reduction (20%). This research is expected to be useful for further research and could help improve understanding in translation.
