Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the categories of sentence structure phrases in simple sentences in the short story Goddess Girl Persephone The Phony by Joan Holub & Suzanne Williams. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. While the data of this research was obtained from reading the short story Goddes Girl Persephone The Phony. Observing the category of phrases and sentences that fall into what category. This study uses Nelson's theory to categorize phrases while, for the function of phrase elements, Noel Burton Roberts' theory is used. Based on the data that has been analyzed, there are 4 categories of phrases found in the short story. The 4 categories are noun phrases, verb phrases, adjective phrases, and prepositional phrases. Based on the data that has been analyzed, the results show that, first, there are four phrasal categories analyzed, namely, data 27 (noun phrase), 13 (verb phrase), 5 (adjective phrase) and 7 (Preposition phrase).
