Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the translation shift in the Harry Potter Deathly Hallow film and to identify the structure of verb phrase. This research is a qualitative descriptive method. Meanwhile, the data for this study were obtained from watching the English and Indonesian version of the Harry Potter Deathly Hallow film. Data analyzes is done by observing any changes in the structure of verb phrase and including the shift category. This research is used Catford's theory for various categories of translation shift and for the structure of verb phrase applied from Nelson's theory. Based on the data that has been analyzed, the results show that, first, there are four structure of verb phrase applied for this translation shift, namely, data 15 (modal auxiliary), 6 (perfect auxiliary), 0 (progressive auxiliary) and 4 (passive auxiliary). The second data is the translation shift applied in the structure of the verb phrase, namely, 6 (structure shift) 0 (class shift) 9 (unit shift) 0 (intra system shift) and 10 (no shift).
