Abstract
The aims of this research is to know the effectiveness of using English video animation to improve student’s vocabulary mastery at eighth grade in SMP Negeri 5 Tambun Utara. The study employed is experimental research. It was carried out in two classes, they are VIII.1 as the experimental class and VIII.2 as the control class. The writer used pre-test and post-test as the main instrument to gather the data. The result of the study showed that using video animation is effective to be used in improving students’ vocabulary mastery in SMP Negeri 5 Tambun Utara. Gain score in the experimental class (21,6) is higher than students’ score in control class (8,65). From the result of statistics calculation, it was obtained that the significance of t-test, also known as tobserved, is 0.000 which is lower than ttable (0.05). In conclusion, Null Hypothesis (H0) is rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Therefore, English animated video is effective to improve vocabulary mastery at eighth grade in SMP Negeri 5 Tambun Utara.
