Abstract
This paper examines the denotative and connotative meanings contained in the song lyrics created by David Guetta. The writer chose three songs in David Guetta's "Nothing But The Beat" album as the main source of research data. The reason why the writer chose song lyrics as the main data source is because generally the connotative meaning is contained in the song lyrics. In this study, researchers used a qualitative descriptive method as a research method. The author's steps in collecting data are by reading the entire song lyrics first, then classifying the data which contains connotative meaning, then describing the meaning of denotation and connotation as well as determining the type of connotation contained in the song lyrics, then interpreting the message contained in the song. Then the conclusion of this research is that there are 30 denotative words or phrases that contain connotative meanings.It is found 6 positive connotations, 8 neutral connotations, 16 negative connotations. The negative connotation is mostly used in the lyrics of David Guetta's songs because it is express thefeelings and explain that he is in a bad and difficult situation. Then use neutral connotation to change something so that listeners easily understand the intent of the songwriter,and use positive connotations to convey messages to listeners in anencouraging way.
