Abstract
The paper is aimed to find out the type of translation shifts that occur in translation in Incredibles 2 movie subtitle by Lebah Ganteng based on Catford shifts theory. The writer takes 30 data from Incredibles 2 movie subtitle. This research uses qualitative method. Firstly, the writer searches major character’s dialogues in English subtitle and compares to Indonesian subtitle translated by Lebah Ganteng, then he determines type of translation shifts that occur in the translation, like the change in tenses, grammatical structure, language hierarchy, word classes, and plurality system after the translation. The writer concludes that from two types of translation shifts, level shift and category shifts (structure shift, unit shift, class shift, intra-system shift), there are all types of translation shifts in the major character’s dialogues translation result. There are 20 cases from unit shift (42.6%), 8 cases from structure shift (17%), 7 cases from level and intra-system shift (14.9%), and 5 cases from class shift (10.6%). Unit shift is the type of translation shifts that is most frequently occurred in translation. This shift is generally occurred when the source language has the different language hierarchy in the target language. This occurs not because of the necessity of grammatical condition, but because of the optimal words that desired by the translator himself.
