Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sign and meaning of the sign. The object used in this study is Occupational Health and Safety Signs. The theory used to analyze the meaning of the sign is based on Roland Barthes. Furthermore, the method used in this research is descriptive qualitative analysis method. The data analysis process is: (1) preparing the data, (2) analyzing the data, (3) discussing the data and finally (4) making data conclusions. The results of the research that have been carried out contain denotations, connotations and myths. The result of this research concludes that from twenty-five data of Safe Condition and First Aid signs (12%), GHS signs or other signs (32%), Warning signs (12%), Fire Equipment and Fire Action signs (4%), Prohibition signs (24%), Mandatory signs (16%). In short, researchers found signs in shapes and colors that mutually produce meanings in denotation, connotation and myth. Thus, signs are very influential in conveying information, especially in occupational health and safety.
