Abstract
In our daily activity, we frequently make a communication that violate the rules of language, for sound, morphem and grammatical too. Nonetheless, that thing does not prevent the listeners getting comprehension the information to have been delivered. The case occurs in that society, it is called pragmatics. Pragmatics is the sub of linguistics to discuss about the meaning in the language through the context. In the pragmatics, there are many subs of of knowledge, such as speech act, deixis, illocutionary, references and other. Those subs of pragmatics refer to the context in a conversation. The context becomes the basic of pragmatics involving the setting, participant, reason the end of conversation, action, the end of action, instrument is used, norms and genre of language. The context and pragmatics have the strong bond in the deixis which it is part of pragmatics’ sub. Deixis is the word or phrase that its referring unconsist to become the connection between language and context. Deixis splits to be 5 kinds, viz personal deixis, place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis and social deixis. And those kinds of deixis have their function each other. The special in the social deixis which becomes this research, it is the deixis to refer the social class or caste in a society. In English, it is frequently found in their society, such as sir, sire, madam, ma’am, dude, brother, gentlemen, etc. Based on its trait, social deixis splits to be 2 parts, viz absolute and relation. Absolute is the kind of social deixis that not be changed. It has a relation with social class, caste, position or profecsion. While social deixis has a trait “relation” referring to the ignorance or foreign towards the listener. In this research, the researcher uses the comic as the research object. The comic is used “The Adventure of Tintin” that having a title “The King Ottokar’s Sceptre”. This comic is written Hergé in 1958 and published by Belgium. This comics tells Tintin’s journey in a country “Syldavia” to be located in Europe. In his journey, Tintin has a mission to meet the king of Muskar XII and stop the rebellion there. This comic identics with social class, position and profession so as it really relates with the research is being done.
